Supplementary plate tectonic model data accompanying paper
Heine et al., Kinematics of the South Atlantic rift, Solid Earth
http://dx.doi.org/10.5194/sed-5-41-2013

This directory/zip file contains data for the plate tectonic model presented
in the above paper, tailored for the use in the open source GPlates
plate tectonic reconstruction software (see below). The following content
is included:

 	- Heine_SouthAtlanticRiftKinematics_Coastlines.shp:
present day coastlines based on the GSHHS data. Shapefile format.

	- Heine_SouthAtlanticRiftKinematics_PlatePolygons.shp:
  	  Closed plate polygons. Shapefile format.

	- Heine_SouthAtlanticRiftKinematics_LaLOC.shp:
Line data for the location of the landward limit of oceanic crust
(LaLOC) used in the plate model. Shapefile format.

	- Heine_SouthAtlantic_Flowlines*.gpml:
Flowlines illustrating the relative plate motions
for the major plates in the South Atlantic. GPlates Markup Language
	  format *.gpml.

	- Heine_SouthAtlantic.rot: Rotation model. Hybrid GPlates rotation
	file format *.rot.

	- Heine_SouthAtlantic_FAGravityFiltered.[jpg/gpml]:
Filtered free air gravity data. Can be cookie-cut to plate polygons in
	GPlates.

Simply drag the *.shp, *.rot and *.gpml files into the
main GPlates window for display. If you would like to
cookie-cut the raster file, select the red raster layer in the
layers dialogue window and chose "Reconstructed polygons"
 from the Inputs connection field.

------------------------------------------------
Cookie cutting the free air gravity data:
------------------------------------------------

1) Load the following files into GPlates:
	Heine_SouthAtlantic_PlatePolygons.shp
	Heine_SouthAtlantic_FAGravityFiltered.gpml
	Heine_SouthAtlantic.rot

2) In the GPlates layer manager (ctrl+l or Window-> Show layers), expand
the red layer by clicking on the little black triangle. Then add a new
layer connection under "Reconstructed polygons" and select
   "Heine_SouthAtlantic_PlatePolygons"

3) Reconstruct back in time.
