Formation of differentiated continental crust enabling modern plate tectonics is debated. Rhyolites, Si-rich rocks from crustal differentiation, record crustal state. Studies show significant increase in rhyolite volume and diversity post-2.7 Ga. These modern-like rhyolites mark crustal reworking producing buoyant lithosphere. Increased K-rich, chemically distinct rhyolite production and evidence for continental collisions with earliest coastlines advances understanding of early Earth dynamics.
