This study highlights the tectono-metamorphic evolution of the lower crust in central Morocco from the Hercynian to the Quaternary from the study of granulitic xenoliths. After a first tectono-metamorphic event, the lower crust recorded heating associated with a moderate deformation preserved in sillimanite. Later, the lower crust interacted with basanite that brought the xenoliths up to the surface. This allows us to compare the evolution of the lower crust in the Rif and the Middle Atlas.

We investigate an exhumed hydrothermal system in the Atacama Desert (Chile) to understand how earthquake swarms form. Wall rocks near fault veins experienced high-stress pulses, and fault veins underwent cyclic crack opening and shearing. These findings suggest ancient earthquake swarm activity, from dynamic crack propagation to repeated crack opening and shearing. This system represents a unique geological record of earthquake swarms, providing insights into their initiation and evolution.

We present a workflow to model the temperature distribution within the lithosphere of sedimentary basins and apply it to NW Hungary. The model can reproduce the thermal evolution through basin formation, making use of temperature measurements from wells. Models provide key input to constrain geodynamic processes and geo-energy resource potential.

Based on the construction of a major fault system and investigation of several main boundaries of the Bohai Sea Basin, eastern China, we propose a right-lateral strike-slip fault between the eastern margin of the Liaodong Peninsula and the northwestern margin of the Jiaodong Peninsula. Then, we suggest that the two-direction extension perpendicular and parallel to the subduction zone should be the genesis of the Bohai Sea Basin and also the basic pattern of the back-arc extension.

For decades, gemologists have struggled to detect heat-treated sapphire. High-technology instruments like Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometers are costly. As a result, luminescence under shortwave ultraviolet (SWUV) light and longwave ultraviolet (LWUV) light provides a cheaper and more practical technique for identifying heat-treated sapphire. This work highlights that blue luminescence under SWUV light could indicate heated sapphire, whereas purplish-red may also be helpful.
