Short summary
We present a 2D numerical modelling of magma-rock interaction after a sill injection into shallow crust. A solver based on OpenFOAM package simulates heat and momentum transfer between magmas of different compositions, with contrasting properties. Two scenarios are considered to explain the presence of fresh rhyolitic fragments excavated during drilling at Krafla caldera in 2009: partial melting of felsic crust triggered by either a 300 m thick rhyolite intrusion or a 100 m thick basalt sill.
